Using the Keyboard with Start Reading
 
   While on the Launch Pad or first screen
      From the Launch Pad select which book will be used.  The 15 books are divided into three levels of five books each and are designated by 'A', 'B', and 'C'.  To see the selections for any level simply type the appropriate letter (A, B, or C).  Five books for that level will be displayed.  The five books are numbered from 1 to 5.  Press the appropriate number on the keyboard and that book will open.

   While Viewing a Book
      Here are the keys you can use.
 
"Esc" or "R"
   These will restart the program taking you back to the Launch Pad.

"Home" or Up Arrow
   Either of these keys will take you to the cover page of that book.

Left Arrow
   This will display the previous page of the book.  You cannot go back to the cover page from page one with the use of the left arrow.
 
Right Arrow
   This will display the next page of the book.  If you are on the last page of the book, this will take you to the next book.
 
"N"
   This will take you to the cover page of the next book.  From the last book of each level you can go to the first book of the next level and from the last book of the last level you can go to the first book of the first level.  This is a quick way to move from book to book without opening the Launch Pad.  The use of the Launch Pad may be quicker if you need to get to a book that is a few books away.
 
"S"
   This will turn on or off the narration (speech). The narration accompanies the text that is read from the screen.  There may be some circumstances in which the teacher would prefer to  read to the student or the student will read the directions by himself, in which case the speech may be turned off.  When the program is started, the speech is automatically turned on.  If you find that your computer is slow, turning the speech off may speed it up a little.
 
"V"
   This will turn on or off the animations.  Animations are displayed on some of the pages.  The animations were added to show a little action for the enjoyment of the viewer.  When the program is started, the animations are automatically turned on.  If you have a slow computer, you might prefer to turn off the animations.
 
"Alt" + "F4"
   To Exit the program you can press down these keys at the same time.

Using the mouse with Start Reading
 

   The mouse is the basic pointer for Windows and can be used just as in any other program.  There are only certain things, however, that react to the mouse in Start Reading.
 
   From the Launch Pad
      From the Launch Pad select which book will be used.  The books are written in three levels and designated by A, B, and C.  To see the selections for any level simply click on one of these letters.  Five books for that level will be displayed.  Click on the book you wish to view.  If you wish to view books in a different level you must use the keyboard (see above).
 
  While Viewing A Storybook
      Here are some things you can do with the mouse in Start Reading.

Left Arrow Icon Button
   By clicking on this button you will be taken to the previous page.  If you are on the first page of the book, this button does not work.

Home Icon Button
      You will be taken to the cover page of the current book when you click on this button.
Right Arrow Icon Button Click on this button to display the next page in the book.  If you are on the last page of a book, this button will take you to the next book.

Launch Pad Icon Button
   Click here to restart the program by taking you back to the Launch Pad.

Next Book Icon Button
   Clicking this button will take you to the cover page of the next book.  From the last book of each level you can go to the first book of the next level and from the last book of the last level you can go to the first book of the first level.  This is a quick way to move from book to book without opening the Launch Pad.  The use of the Launch Pad may be quicker if you need to get to a book that is a few books away.

Speaker Icon Button
   Click on this button to turn on or off  the narration (speech). XClose Window Button To Exit the program click on the Close Window button which is located in the far upper right corner of the window.
